Elmscot Early Years Teacher a Maths Champion

Early Years Teacher Joy Homersham, from Elmscot Day Nursery, Timperley, has been selected as one of 20 Early Years Professionals nationwide to become a Maths Champion for Nurseries in Trafford. This new project, led by the National Day Nursery association and supported by the DfE, recognizes the importance of Maths in early years (children aged 0-5 years) and supports improved outcomes across the board.

The aim of the Maths Champion project is to support early years practitioners and raise their confidence levels, knowledge and understanding of maths in the early years and thus enable them to improve outcomes in maths through play and help them to plan and provide an enabling environment for maths in their nursery.

The NDNA support includes free online audit tools, resources for activities and environments for maths through play, sharing video case studies of good and outstanding practice in maths, learning opportunities for the practitioners, access to diagnostic tools and support materials. In addition, the NDNA support Maths Champions via web conferences and webinars, where as EYPs they discuss success and obstacles and share ideas and excellent practice.
