Altrincham Nursery Gains National Award For Effective Parent Partnerships

Elmscot Day Nursery & Nursery School Altrincham is delighted to announce it has been awarded the highly-acclaimed Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA).

After much hard work from the team, Elmscot (Altrincham) has gained the award which aims to provide education settings with a framework to deliver effective parent engagement. Having already achieved an “Outstanding” Ofsted rating, this latest achievement is set to solidify the setting’s commitment to best practice, providing quality childcare and building great relationships with parents.

The LPPA is an independent accreditation which investigates a number of key areas which are critical objectives for settings to provide the best experience for both parents and children in their care. These include: supporting through transition phases as the child progresses; encouraging parent participation; effectively communicating; providing clear and accessible guidance; and establishing good links between nursery and home, right from induction.

Elmscot (Altrincham) was found to adhere to all objectives, which were solidified by conversations with stakeholders and testimonial information. The final verification report states that the nursery was found to have a partnership ethos, where parents and staff work together for the benefit of the children’s development.

Offering a warm welcome to all, the nursery is said to provide a great “feel” for parents and visitors, with access for parents to share their views and gain valuable support from the team. Technology plays a large part in this communication, with Tapestry (an online learning journal) being the pinnacle for creating those vital links between home and nursery learning.

In addition, the varied programme of activities for all stages of child development allows for parent and community participation through interactive talks and excursions.

Lucy Yarnell, Nursery Manager at Elmscot (Altrincham) is utilising the opportunity to further enhance support and communication strategies.

“The LPPA award has allowed us as a setting to look at the ways we communicate with our parents and set a development plan that will continue to encourage this,” says Lucy. “The use of Tapestry for parents’ views, as well as the paper-based material, allow us to make sure that all parents’ views are voiced and acted on. “This award has highlighted to us the areas we need to continue to develop in order to make our parent partnerships successful.”
