Altrincham Childcare Group Champions Mental Health in Early Years Sector
Staff at Elmscot Group of Nurseries and Out-of-School Clubs have become qualified champions of mental health in the early years sector, having completed an in-depth course surrounding an awareness and understanding of children and young people’s mental health.
Managers and Practitioners from the Elmscot Group of Nurseries have completed a Level 2 course in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, focusing on support and early intervention from early childhood. The Out-of-school club team from Kids Collective, including Group Manager, Hannah Reeves completed a Level 2 course in an Awareness of Mental Health Problems, which concentrated on adult and workplace health awareness.
Good Mental Health and Wellbeing is important to enable children and young people to reach their full potential, build resilience and self-regulation – all vital life skills to become a confident and able adult.
Having an understanding of the factors affecting mental health from childhood through to adulthood means concerns can be recognised and supported effectively. In addition, providing support to those caring for children creates a positive culture, supporting well-being and mental health of the workforce and an emotionally healthy environment for the team and children within the settings.
Having advanced mental health training means Elmscot Group is exceeding standards within the childcare sector and has now proven they consider mental health to be a top priority.
The two courses were completed through The Skills Network, who specialise in online training within the UK. This made it more effective for Elmscot Group staff to complete the courses and gain the nationally recognised qualifications.
Rachael Lyons, Elmscot Group Operations Manager said: “The mental health and wellbeing of our team and children in our care is incredibly important to us. These courses have given us the knowledge and skills to work with any concerns we may identify and offer support that is required.
“We are very proud of this achievement, as the team and I have worked very hard to gain these qualifications. Moving forward, we will continue to work towards our goal of becoming an emotionally healthy childcare business, working on the foundations and building from this over the next year.”
Elmscot Group of Day Nurseries, Nursery Schools and Kids Collective Clubs provides outstanding childcare and education to over 1,800 children across Cheshire.
