Each team within each nursery cares for a group of children of the same age and manages their own planned activities and environment under the guidance of the EYP and Early Years Teacher. A Key Person is assigned to your child when you settle in, ensuring your child's achievements are recording and activities to encourage the next steps of development are varied, stimulating, stage-appropriate and well resourced.
In addition, we supplement our own professional activities with free of charge extra-curricular sessions offered by external providers (see below). This ensures that these sessions are unaffected by any internal changes in nursery staffing and additional adults are present to assist children at these times. For example, every term-time week at each nursery we welcome Stretch-n-Grow, a specialist local provider of physical activity sessions for children aged 2 and above. These sessions incorporate learning about our bodies and healthy choices and are excellent, supporting our ethos at Nursery perfectly (see below). Other regular providers of extra-curricular sessions include:
- Drama4Tots
- Yoga Bugs
- Rhyme Time
- Talking Tots
- Rhythm and Rhyme
- Dusty Dreams (Children's Chrstmas Parties and other occasions)
- Jo Jingles
- Baby Sign Time
- Zoolab
- The Really Wild Roadshow
- Kiddy Cook
- Living Eggs (we care for eggs in an incubator and look after the chicks when they hatch!)
We organise regular special on site events too, to support the planned activities, such as Zoolab (hands on experience with different small animals, including reptiles, and mini-beasts), Dino Dinosaur Oral Health visits and Firefighter visits. We celebrate many different cultural festivals and support charities such as the Children's Adventure Farm Trust, Francis House Children's Hospice and Children in Need with our own fund-raising activities.
All off-site trips are arranged in advance in consultation with parents and include simple walks to the park, trips to supermarkets and open air markets where children can purchase their own food, trips on buses to the airport and more.
Current Weekly Extra-curricular Sessions
These sessions are available free of charge to all children who attend nursery when the workshops are scheduled. Further information about the expertise we welcome every week to enhance our own activities, and session dates, can be found under 'Newsletter'.
Stretch 'n' Grow is the world's leading health, fitness and nutrition program for children. Elmscot's curriculum already establishes a foundation of exercise and proper nutrition at an early age. TheStretch-n-Grow program extends this and teaches children the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle with weekly emphasis on exercise, healthy bodies and good food choices. It's a lot of fun and children love it!
Talking Tots weekly sessions support the new government initiative 'Every Child a Talker' and are offered free of charge to children over 2 years of age.
Rhythm Time Early Learning through Music for children aged 18 months to 30 months.
